We – Isabella Brandhuber, Larissa Hrozek, Maria Ioan, Helena Hiti and Aleyna Bas – are Wunschscrunchies. As we all know, climate change is a big topic nowadays, so why not support the benefit of old but still usable things? That’s when we came up with the idea of producing scrunchies out of fabric leftovers. The hairbands, which look nice on your head and wrist were trendy back then and still are.
Our idea is to upcycle old clothes into customized scrunchies. We are promoting the mindset that you can reuse a lot if your idea is only good enough.
We asked tailorings, family members and friends for old fabrics that weren‘t used anymore and were very thankful for the support. We selected those which had the necessary quality to produce scrunchies. It was exciting to see all the beautiful colours and patterns, that motivated us even more for our project.
We were able to gain a lot of experience regarding teamwork, independence, producing and finally selling the finished products. We now know how important it is to point out a problem if there is one, in order to make a project work. Good work share is also a very important aspect. It is necessary to give feedback to team members and give each other advice and new ideas on how to improve their part of the work next time. It‘s exciting to talk to customers in order to make them interested in our scrunchies. It was easy and fun to start a conversation with curious people, who all liked our idea of creating something new and trendy out of something still usable. We presented our fabrics in such way, that customers could choose the pattern/material they wished to have.
Why should people prefer our products over scrunchies from the store?
Because we do something to prevent climate change. We do the work ourselves and do not take advantage of poor people in other countries unlike many companies and also because we will donate our collected money in the end. Besides, where else can you get your customized hand-made scrunchie?
